As I Lay Dying soften the edges of old school death metal and hardcore and add a ton of technical ability. The band formed in San Diego in 2001. Without being preachy, As I Lay Dying use their Christian beliefs as inspiration for their music. The band is named after the book by William Faulkner but reportedly there's no correlation between the two. In an interview, singer Tim Lambesis said he didn't really enjoy the book.
