Her self-titled debut reached gold status within two months. Her mother (Sonja Bates) is a cousin of the legendary R&B artist Bo Diddley. Brandy starred as high-school student Moesha on the UPN sitcom of the same name. It ran for six seasons. Brandy's kid brother is the equally successful R&B star Ray-J.
