Saunders Terrell, otherwise known as Sonny Terry, was a blues harmonica player from Greensboro, North Carolina. Sonny Terry referred to his music as "folk blues." By the age of 16, Terry was virtually blind. His parents encouraged music as a way to make a living. Although he played with a variety of other musicians, Sonny Terry is best known for his work with Brownie McGhee.
