Sinatra's career took a nosedive in the late 1940s and early '50s when he romanced and married ultravixen Ava Gardner. Jazz musicians influenced by Sinatra include Lester Young, Miles Davis, and Stan Getz. An Academy Award winning actor, Sinatra was the top box office draw at the movies for a number of years. His son, Frank Sinatra Jr., was kidnapped in late 1963. Sinatra paid the kidnappers $240,000 in ransom.
