Singer/guitarist Shimon Moore and bassist Emma Anzai met and founded Sick Puppies in their high school music room in 1997.
To save up to move to the U.S., Anzai got a job as a telemarketer. Moore carried a board advertising 2-for-1 shoes at a mall.
At the mall, Moore met Juan Mann, the "Free Hugs" guy in the Puppies' YouTube video for "Nothing Really Matters."
Way before YouTube, the Australian edition of Rolling Stone called the band the "most dynamic new band in the country."
They do a mean version of "Say My Name," but efforts to properly release the cover were quashed by Destiny's Child's label.
